Aluminium Profiles – Alloys, Finishes and Applications
Aluminium profiles are lightweight, corrosion-resistant and easy to machine. They are used in façades, frames, furniture, transport, machinery, LED lighting, interior systems and industrial structures. Choosing the right profile starts with alloy, dimensions, finish and application.
Common alloys
EN AW-6060 and EN AW-6063 are widely used for architectural and decorative profiles. They extrude well, have good surface quality and are suitable for anodising. EN AW-6082 is stronger and is used for structural profiles, machine frames and load-bearing applications.
Extrusion
Aluminium profiles are made by extrusion, where heated aluminium is pushed through a die to create a continuous shape. This makes it possible to produce simple tubes, channels and angles as well as complex custom profiles with grooves, cavities and fixing points.
Surface finishes
Anodising improves corrosion resistance and creates a durable decorative surface. Powder coating provides colour and additional protection. Raw aluminium naturally forms an oxide layer, but outdoor and architectural use often benefits from a controlled finish.
Applications
Aluminium profiles are used in window and door systems, façade structures, handrails, furniture, machine guards, conveyor frames, LED lighting channels, solar panel supports and lightweight industrial structures.
How to choose
For visible and decorative profiles, choose 6060 or 6063 with anodising or powder coating. For stronger frames and load-bearing structures, choose 6082 in a suitable temper. Check tolerances, wall thickness, finish, fixing method and whether the profile will be used indoors or outdoors.
Kominox supplies aluminium profiles for standard applications and project-specific requirements, including different alloys, finishes and dimensions.
